CONSENT (FOR KIDS!): Boundaries, Respect, and Being in Charge of You
by Rachel Brian
January 2020 – Little, Brown (US)
The book adults are looking for to talk about consent and bodily autonomy with the kids in their lives, CONSENT (FOR KIDS!) is informative, age-appropriate, humorously illustrated in a simple graphic novel format, and comprehensive.
Teaching kids how to navigate each other’s boundaries safely, and how to identify inappropriate “grooming” behavior, is a key strategy for reducing rates of sexual assault and harassment, and to helping kids feel in control of their own bodies, reduce victim-blaming, and recognize differences without judgment.
Everyone faces issues around consent. Some situations are relatively harmless; others are life-altering. Funny, playful, and focused on personal autonomy, this primer will help young people intervene to help others and reflect on (and improve!) their own behaviors, all while using age-appropriate humor and storytelling to go along with lighthearted and relatable artwork.
